 1) What were the first videogames like?

In October 1958, Physicist William Higinbotham created what is thought to be the first video game. It was a very simple tennis game, similar to the classic 1970s video game Pong, and it was quite a hit at a Brookhaven National Laboratory open house.

They have evolved significantly from the early days of computer games and the first versions of Nintendo and Atari. The days of pixelated screens and limited sounds are a distant memory as video games have become more lifelike than ever. As technology continues to improve, so do video games.

Story and gameplay are both vital for having a great game. Players should feel attached to the characters and want to continue playing to see how the story unfolds. While gameplay is important, it doesn't always save a game.

  • Playing violent video games causes more aggression, bullying, and fighting.
  • Simulating violence such as shooting guns and hand-to-hand combat in video games can cause real-life violent behavior.

Gaming has also been associated with sleep deprivation, insomnia and circadian rhythm disorders, depression, aggression, and anxiety, though more studies are needed to establish the validity and the strength of these connections.
